More Than Super: Cindy Crawford Styled by Sally Lyndley for Violet Grey
CINDY CRAWFORD holy moly. Cindy Crawford was the first model I was obsessed with and inspired by… mostly because of MTV and her fantastic stint hosting House of Style. She is the jam. The hair, the mole, the real women’s body! Cindy Crawford is everything!! She’s as smart as the come too! Being the first model to treat her career as a branding opportunity with deals with Pepsi and then of course the fabulous workout videos (I had all of them).
When the team over at Violet Grey called my agent and asked if I would be interested in shooting Cindy for their October photo story, of course, I accepted immediately. And did a happy dance all around my studio. I was also stoked at the opportunity to work with the oh-so-talented Emma Summerton. I love shooting with women photographers. We had the legendary Serge Normant on hair and Dotti for makeup. Both so beyond talented, and I was honored to be working with the entire team. Emma & I wanted to do some classic Cindy style pics, and Cassandra Grey who is the brains behind the fab Violet Grey site, offered up the iconic NY Streets set on the Paramount lot, in LA. Instead of styling Cindy sexy, as everyone always does, we wanted to do something a little more unexpected.
So I got the idea of doing that bit of cross dressing, mens shirts, ties, suits… taking more of that route with it. I did throw in a pencil skirt but for the most part I kept it very masculine. My favorite look was the Tom Ford navy tux above. Sooooooo GORG! Love the team, love Cindy, love Violet Grey, super stoked to have been involved in this gorgeous story.
