Wardrobe Staple no 29 of 33: The Sweatpant
Much like our friend Debbie Harry here, I love a sweatsuit, and especially a sweatpant! One of my wardrobe ride or dies holding on strong since lockdowns began. Years ago, when Phoebe Philo began designing Celine, David Sims did a portrait of her wearing a camel jacket, turtleneck sweater and sweatpants. I put it in the turtleneck post, so you can see it there. Ever since I saw this picture I have rocked sweat pants this way. So freaking chic and obviously beyond comfortable, I love dressing up sweats with a mens shirt, a nice cashmere sweater, a blazer and maybe even thigh high boots. I love them so much and I am really obsessed with the oversized 80’s variation currently being made by so many brands. Also, I live for a sweatsuit. Matching up your sweatshirt with your sweatpants is everything. Add your favorite jewelry, a big leather bag and some limited edition sneakers and you are giving major private plane awesomeness. I call it stealth wealth, and I am here for it.
My two favorite sweat suits in my closet at the moment are from Mate The Label (20% off with code sally20) and Sporty & Rich. I have been eyeing the sweatpants (and of course matching tops) from The General Standard, Los Angeles Apparel, Joah Brown and Set Active. The General Standard is full on sustainability, owning the supply chain from literal cotton seed to finish product shipped to your door. Los Angeles Apparel is the new brand from Dove formerly known as starting American Apparel, and he is killing it with fit, color and his Made in Usa standards. Joah Brown takes the idea of Yeezy vibes and makes it sexy, I love their colors and silhouettes. Set Active is doing great activewear but don’t sleep on these sweats. Again, killer colors and styles from them as well. I also own several sweatpants from Fear of God Essentials because I love their skinnier fit. They sell out like crazy, so make sure you sign up for the drops on their site. Or just go buy a pair over on StockX.
