The Leather Vest

Leather vests have been introduced to me in recent years as I began to ride motorcycles. The leather vest in my closet was a gift from a dear friend who used to ride in it all of the time. She had since stopped riding motos and wanted me to have it. Once this leather vest was introduced to my closet, I became obsessed because any look is cooler if you add a leather vest to it. I also love the pockets factor. Any chance I can go handsfree with no bag, I am stoked and a leather vest with a few pockets can easily replace a clutch. My leather vest is oversized which I love for being able to layer over giant hoodies, blazers and denim jackets. I am eyeing the more fitted style to be able to easily layer under coats and blazers as well as to wear in the summer when I am riding my motorcycle and want to forgo a bag. Fitted or oversized, the leather vest is a great addition to any closet that might need a touch of cool edge.

For buying a new leather vest, I would look at the classic leather companies! First stop for me is always Understated Leather, made in Austin, TX by a cool girl who does killer cool girl cuts. The second would have to be Schott, I stick to their made in USA collection. Another Made in USA brand who specializes in motorcycle leathers and constantly collabs with Supreme is Vanson Leathers. They carry some incredible vests including the famous bones vest. You are gonna have to ignore the photos and go with measurements and details to find your vibe on their site, but it’s worth it. The last American classic in moto leathers is Langlitz, again, ignore the photo, and focus on the details here. They make great heavy leathers, mostly custom. If you want a puffer hybrid, check out this luxury Ralph Lauren vest. If you are looking for a vegan option, FreePeople has got you. Filson has a great Made in USA vest as well if you want a more masculine, utilitarian vibe. This Alaia vest is what my fashion dreams are made of and Frankie Shop is also doing a great vegan utilitarian style vest. If you are up for the hunt, I would hit Ebay and Grailed for great vintage options.
