The Puffer Vest

Puffer vests and fashion? Who knew a very GORP CORE item like the down puffer could be mixed in to a fashion closet to add that automatic street vibe? I love finding new ways to rock this hiker’s classic uniform piece with unexpected dresses and suits. The market is FLUSH with killer oversized and cropped variations and I also love a good ole men’s puffer to layer over tailoring and under a big coat in the winter. Keeping your core warm in the winter, a good puffer will help bring some of those fall only jackets into colder temps. I also love a puffer for super chilly days when I need a little extra warmth, even inside the house. Go for colors that will add fun and blend into your existing closet easily. Also avoid any puffer vests that are too thin or have those weird curved waist seams, so common in women’s puffer vests available. This is a big reason I prefer the men’s department when it comes to down puffers!

For the fashion take on a puffer vest, look no further than Rick Owens, SSense e-com , Net-A-Porter and the good old Frankie Shop. FreePeople also has very retro cool fashion vibes with their vest selection at a friendly price. Filson makes a killer classic down vest and so does The NorthFace, Patagonia (with fleece reversible!!), and the ever tech advanced Arc Teryx. Gentle Herd and Nap are doing cool puffers for the ladies in oversized shapes while Girlfriend Collective is going unisex and sustainable. Uniqlo would be my best budget buy, and Zara also has a ton of puffer vest options including Faux Leather.
