Wardrobe Staple no 7 of 33: Overalls
Carrie Bradshaw wore them on Sex & The City and so did Rachel on Friends. Clara Bow rocked a pair and women wore them as they entered the workforce during world wars. Overalls are a constitution in American workwear and an absolute wardrobe must-have. I have worn them off and on since the 90’s. When I moved to Wisconsin five years ago, my mostly European wardrobe began to feel pretentious for a drink at the local corner bar. Enter workwear and my go to favorite, Overalls. I love styling them up with a nice shirt or thin sweater, and down with a tee or tank and some beat up boots. I also own them in tight fit for feeling cute as well as loose, for when I am doing actually doing housework or yard work!
Carhartt’s classic heavy denim overalls will last you a lifetime! Get them in your regular jean size if you want them tight and two sizes bigger for a comfy/boyfriend fit. Carhartt also makes a softer version, if you don’t want the stiffer fabric. I LOVE my Atwyld overalls for a sexier, yet still comfy (read: stretch), fit. I also have their moto protection overalls which have abrasion protection. Free People has cute more fashion overalls and Levi’s makes a good loose option and a great shortall for hot weather and beach vacations! For summer, I live in the Beaton Linen overalls!
