Wardrobe Staple no 8 of 33: The Swim Suit

The iconic swim suit is a staple whether your choice is one piece or two. If you are choosing the minimalist route for your wardrobe, which I am in pursuit of myself, you only need one classic swimsuit in your closet. Now, how do you choose that iconic shape and color for yourself? Refer to your personal style.. for me the black triangle bikini is my always go to for over 20 years now. I love it when I am fat or skinny and I love it on pale or tan skin. I love that I can adjust the sizing of the tie triangle tops and bottoms to adjust for my weight loss or gain. I wish I could rock at one piece, but I have a really long torso, so they usually don’t fit me right. If you have a bigger bust and want more support, check out underwire options! If you love a one piece and have a nice booty, try a cheeky fit to show some of that behind off. Find your comfort zone! Make sure you have one swim suit, that is coverage friendly for a kids pool party. I have loads of bikinis I love with thong backs, but I choose to wear those sunbathing.

Norma Kamali makes some of the best swimwear around, all in classic shapes from 40’s to the 90’s, at more of a premium level. I love Skatie and Inamorata for fun prints and stylist updates to classic shapes. I also adore the classic surf brands like Billabong & Body Glove for swim suits. They tend to run smaller, like junior sizing, and carry classic shapes in great colors with lots of sportier options for those who love their water athletics. For curve ladies, checkout SummerSalt and Good American for sizes up to 24.
