Wardrobe Staple no 20 of 33: The Sweatshirt

Sweatshirts are a security blanket for me. I wear them everyday when the temps drop below 60 degrees, and I own WAY too many of them. Therefore, I have become something of a sweatshirt connoisseur. These days I don’t ever go for a cheap blank, aka any printed tee on a cheap sweatshirt. With my pickiness, I only like a heavier weight cotton blend with a nice designer shape. Call me an elitist, I am ok with that. I wear my sweatshirts with EVERYTHING. They bring cool to a fussy look and bring youth to an outfit that can otherwise feel stuffy, aka the suit. I love sweatshirts in all forms and factors. Hoodies, crew necks, zip fronts, cropped, etc. Wear your sweatshirt with a matching sweat pant and fabulous jewelry for rich bitch comfort. Or match it up with your favorite carpenter pant to give American work wear realness. Layer on top of a girly dress to add streetwear tomboy vibes. Put a hoodie on under your blazer for a dose of youth to a grown up suit. Sweatshirts help create the ultimate high/low look.

I love a vintage Made in USA sweatshirt from Ebay. I own several from Harvard and Harley Davidson. Mate The Label is my go to for sexy, feminine and sustainable sweats. Sporty & Rich does killer 80’s/90’s Princess Di Health inspired sweats that I also love and own. You have to sign up for their drops because everything is preorder. Although Net-a-Porter does carry some of their pieces as well as other killer designer sweats. The General Standard sweats are another favorite I own tons from. They were developed by my friend Alfredo and the fit and fabric is *chef’s kiss. GS owns their supply chain from seed to consumer, completely sustainable, not to mention the best unisex sweats in the business. FarFetch, End Clothing and SSense are my other top places to shop for designer sweats for myself and clients. And I cannot ever forget about Supreme, the OG of streetwear.
