Wardrobe Staple of no 23 of 33: The Shacket
The newly nicknamed Shacket, ashirt plus a jacket equals the shacket, has become a wardrobe institution, especially after lockdowns ensued and comfort prevailed. What makes a shirt a shacket? It’s ability to layer over a top for perfect coziest and also, pockets, all of the pockets. I think layering a shacket over a sweat suit is the new work from home uniform. The collar and buttons give you the right amount of structure to add a little chic to basics like a tee or denim. While I prefer my shackets in cozy materials for the most part, I also have a few denim varieties in my closet as well. Go for a slightly oversized look and get a color way that will blend well with the rest of your classics. This will be a piece you will grab for all year when the AC’s are blasting in the summers and when a tee shirt is no longer warm enough in the winter.
My favorite shackets are from Free People, I own three from their line up alone. The Ruby is the most famous of shackets, and probably the most comfortable. Carbon 38 also has some cute options in cozy fabrics. Thakoon is making a very chic version in both creamy beige and mint green. Isabel Marant has made some killer heavy plaid versions in both regular and maxi lengths. Net-A-Porter has varieties from Rick Owens and Bottega Veneta. And Zara has plaid, corduroy and denim assortments at bargain prices.
