Ponchos

Ponchos seem to be readily available now from many brands both high and low. With the comfort we have all been prioritizing since lockdowns, ponchos have topped my list of both comfortable and chic. I love the drama and elegance a poncho brings to every outfit, and have had at least two solid ponchos in my wardrobe since the early 00s. You can easily make a poncho from any wool or cashmere felt blanket by simply adding a vertical hole or slit in the middle. My personal style has been heavily leaning on my Texan roots, and when I saw the Sergio Leone films with Clint Eastwood a few years back, the poncho rose to the top of the list of items I wanted to wear more often. I also love a poncho on the plane, since I am always cold and the shape is basically a blanket. I think ponchos are a great timeless edition to your closet, especially if you like loose and dramatic silhouettes as part of your personal style. Remember to choose colors and patterns that will mesh well with your existing closet, especially denims and tailoring as those are my favorite pieces to style with a poncho.

Chloe is making the coolest ponchos right now that feel part tech at the neck and part blanket in the body. This Toteme poncho feels both chic and utilitarian at the same time. I love the idea of padded ponchos and have definitely had a few of these styles in my closet through the years. This knit poncho is so cozy and would layer well under an oversized winter coat. I love a poncho that feels like a robe, like a spiritual uniform. This one reminds me of something Georgia O’Keefe would have worn. For those on a budget, Zara has a very nice selection in all of the different poncho styles. And these vintage rubberized ponchos are very cool in more of a raincoat way.
