Bottega Veneta
Why? Bottega Veneta is currently THE most influential brand in fashion, being worn by influencers, celebs and fashion fanatics alike. The stealth wealth vibe (almost no logos) and unique shapes of both clothing and accessories have really set BV apart in the crowded luxury arena. I feel like Daniel Lee, the creative director who took over from Tomas Maier a few years back, heavily drew inspiration from his days working from Phoebe Philo. And all of the Phoebe Philo-ites went in for his take at BV. The advertising and show formats (secretive and in cities like Berlin & Detroit) have also felt fresh and cool, something most luxury houses are not able to accomplish. With a new creative director at the helm this coming season, I hope the brand maintains it’s cool.
What to buy? The tailoring, knits and trousers are particular standouts with incredible unique shapes, fits and fabrics. Zara has great dupes of BV’s collections, if money is tight. The bags have become THE trend for the past few years with the very 80’s pouch shape, so if you like to have the latest It-bag, go for these! Also there are great dupes of these pouch bags EVERYWHERE, check out these and these. I also love their take on the Bottega classic of woven leather. The cassette bag is gorgeous and so are the totes. Bottega is also leading the shoe trend game with the puddle boots, tire boots and square toe sandals and pumps. Again dupes of these are everywhere, so if you are on a budget, check out these and these. If you have the budget, BV is going to hold resale value for quite awhile! If you want an instant update to your wardrobe, add Bottega Veneta (or any of the dupes) to your closet for an instant facelift.
Where to buy? Bottega Veneta’s site has quite a bit of stock and will help you locate items in a store near you. Net-a-porter, Saks Fifth Ave, Ssense, Far Fetch, Moda Operandi, and My Theresa all have BV. The used market is also strong if you don’t want to pay full price. Check out The Real Real and Vestaire Collective for authenticated Bottega. The Frankie Shop, Zara and Mango for decent dupes.
